Diana Sullivan...spent 20 years caring for injured and orphaned animals on her farm in Leelanau County, and providing educational programs throughout the state of Michigan. In 1993 she received the award for Environmentalist of the Year in the category of education, presented by Northern Michigan Environmental Action Council of Traverse City, Michigan. At the time, the programs had reached audiences of over 40,000.
In her art each impression represents an individual personality with a special message to convey. The inspiration is in the beauty of it ALL.
Since a very early age I have kept a journal for writing my thoughts. Eventually I began sketching impressions of what was happening around me as I explored nature. While observing one special eagle nest I would sketch the bird and in my travels around Sleeping Bear wilderness I recorded the various landscapes with simple pen and ink drawings. This is how I discovered the relaxing and meditative affects of sitting in one place and drawing.
When I relocated to a remote area of Upper peninsula Michigan, I was inspired by my new surroundings and with more time to myself, I continued to develop the simple field sketches. I began adding color to the line drawings. The work you see on this site is an expression of how I see the world around me. I hope you enjoy viewing and perhaps become inspired in some way, in your own process, whatever it may be.
These days, working around our home has been my work of art in progress.
